Greg Puppa - Sense da Groove

Helvetica Recordingz kicks off 2008 with a new track from up and coming Swiss producer Greg Puppa. This guy has not been producing very long, but you can instantly see something very special in his debut track, Sense da Groove. He may be just new to the game, but we think he has the guts to go a very long way.
Remixes come thick and fast and from various sources, we hunted down some of the taste makers of the moment. First up in Underwater Records' Ingo Staar who turns out an intense techno monster that is going to be one of the sizzlers of the year, its intense and builds into floor destroyer, we were quite literally stunned when we heard this! Following him is Oven Ready boss Moussa Clarke who cooks up a beautiful progressive driver with plenty of pads and mellow melodies to please the faithful.
Following them are two guys who are making a stir in the underground scene, Switzerland's Dan Welton from Noir Music and Mokilok partnering up with Norway's David Sense from Toolroom to present us their dirty chunky tech house mix which is twisted and cleverly constructed, this baby is perfect for anyone looking for something a little different. Lastly to the remixes is Helvetica's very own label boss, BP Zulauf who takes his mix on a deep house plain and balances out this release package rather nicely we think.
This release should contain something for everyone we hope, please send us back your feedback, charts, track lists, radio sets etc. Positive or negative, we want to hear your views.
2008 is well on its way for all here at Helv HQ, we wish to take this time to thank you all for your support through out 2007 and we look forwards to working with you again through out the year.
Next up on Helv is P.J.C Project - Smalltime with remixes from Little Green Men, Milton Jackson and Mario Zar & Marco Berto

Steve Lawler - Viva London
Steve Lawler presents his VIVA album series; each representing one of his residencies around the world...
... and where would he begin with? London of course! This double CD celebrates our vibrant capital as it bursts with dark funk, sexy sleaze and sinister fun, all through an expert blend of the world’s best producers.
This compilation draws inspiration from his monthly residency at London’s The End, a night he’s justifiably proud of. “VIVA Harlem Nights has been running for nearly 6 years at The End and it was time lay down a permanent celebration of the night and a permanent celebration of London”
Steve has used the double-disc to recreate a night at the club. “At the night itself I play for 5 hours so re-creating the club atmosphere within the 2CDs - which is only a 2 ½-hour timeframe - was really tough, but I have definitely captured the vibe.” “The hardest call was what I should leave off” says Steve “There’s some very exciting music out there and I decided to put a mix together of tracks that I have been heavily supporting this year.”

John Digweed - Gridlock
Gridlock is Digweed and Muir at their contemporary best, a haunting ride that combines their trademark production with an edgier technique.
“Nick and I started work on the track earlier this year and had every intention of it being a single” says John “But it just grew and grew ending up at a whopping 25 minutes, so we hit upon the idea of marrying it to the next installment of my Transitions compilation series as a bonus disc.”
However on completion, the obligatory test plays to friends and a few key bods suggested they were on to something very special indeed. John elaborates: “We realized it would be a shame to only release the extended 25-minute mix as part of the album so Nick and I went back into the studio to lay down two new, shorter versions more suited to clubs.”
“You have to catch the balance, dance floors are responding to a more twisted, darker sound these days” says John. “We wanted to capture that essence, whist at the same time stay true to our previous productions.”
And they’ve succeeded, the result is a truly outstanding blend of dislocated melodies, driving bass, ethereal vocals and a breakdown of immense proportions that had them jumping whilst John road-tested the ‘Stereo’ mix throughout a recent American tour. “It was very rewarding getting such a great reaction from a crowd who didn’t know the track” says John, “Let alone the fact it’s my latest offering”.

John Digweed - Transitions Vol. 3
Digweed returns with the eagerly anticipated third volume in his acclaimed Transitions series...
“Musically speaking, I’ve been shifting through the gears over the series,” he says “and we’re now approaching top speed. This mix still represents an immediate snapshot of my favorite tunes and producers, but it’s also about that specific energy you get at 3 or 4am at the best clubs or festivals around the world.”
To capture and realize this John worked a whopping 20 tracks into the album. “Running the tracklist up so high was a conscious decision,” he elaborates, “it allowed me to generate that energy and atmosphere, which I further reinforced by creating exclusive edits.”
Every track on T3 has been given the magic touch by continuous layering and in the overall running time the passages where there isn’t a mix running are actually shorter than those where they are. It’s an intense ride which in true Digweed fashion builds over its 78-minute excursion. The mix kicks off with Sasha’s elusively titled ‘Coma ’. Moving on highlights include the innovative use of Lawrence’s ‘Along The Wire’, broken down and part-used throughout its neighbors ‘Sweet N Candy’ and ‘Einzelkind’. The Dusty Kid / Aldo Kadiz mash-up, ‘Begun The End Has’ from Harthouse regular Joel Mull, the incredible Josh Wink remix of ‘Someone Else’ and Gui Boratto’s emotive interpretation of Adam Freeland’s latest, ‘Silverlake Pills’ are similarly outstanding.
