Robert Oleysyck

Robert OleysyckWith a career spanning over a decade, Robert Oleysyck has emerged as one of America's top and most versatile DJ's. He plays clubs and events all over the world, and has had tenure at Spundae Las Vegas, Ice, Rain and Ghostbar in the Palms Hotel, Curve, C2K in the Venetian, Baby's in the Hard Rock, Drai's, and Giant Las Vegas. In addition, he was one of the founding members, driving force and resident DJ at the legendary Club Utopia, selected as one of America's top ten nightspots. Voted as one of America's best Resident DJ's, #1 DJ in Las Vegas, and recently selected as one of Vegas’ top 100 attractions, Robert has been an active member of the infamous Balance Record Pool for 6 years, sharing company with the top progressive DJ's in North America and the UK. Most known for his unique blend of progressive house, edgy trance, deep tech house, flawless mixing, and dynamic programming, he has been named Las Vegas’ Shining Light.

Born in Seoul, South Korea, Robert immigrated to New York in 1974. Robert's youth was filled with all kinds of music being showcased in the Big Apple, but his fascination with beats and drums was at the forefront of his musical interest. It wasn’t until Robert went to college at Villanova in Philadelphia that he first discovered DJing. In a short time, Robert started mastering his mixing abilities at mobile gigs, college bars, and frat parties spinning diverse sets that included music by New Order, Information Society and Grand Master Flash.

Robert's style began to develop more when he moved to Memphis, playing Kraftwerk and Dee-Lite at clubs like The Fault Line. There, Robert carefully blended electronic sounds like Front 242 and Depeche Mode with Italian House and Hip House.

Las Vegas was the pivotal shift in Robert's style and career.

This is where he was first exposed to progressive electronic music such as Fluke and Jam & Spoon. With residencies at The Palladium, Gypsy, Shark Club, Club Utopia, and Giant Las Vegas among others, Robert quickly moved up the ranks and broadened his experience, sharing the decks with the likes of Sasha, Carl Cox, Paul Oakenfold, Moby, Deep Dish, Steve Lawler, Chris Fortier, Tall Paul and a host of others. In addition to his many club gigs, Robert was making a name amongst the party circuit, but the "Desert Move Rave" in 1995 which featured artists and DJ's from all over the world like, Electric Skychurch, Derrick May, John Acquaviva, Keoki, Westbam, and Josh Wink, really made an impression, and that's when he decided to dedicate himself to the music and the culture he loves. Shortly after, he was a featured guest in 1997's Electric Highway Tour, and Electric Circus, a dance show on Canada's Much Music television network.

Now, Robert plays nationally, in Canada and has had recent exposure in Europe. Robert's hard work paid off when he gained great recognition by being selected as a prestigious Billboard Dance Panelist in 1997. He was also recently involved as the Director for the Interstate Records DJ School, where he wrote, developed and taught an in depth instructional curriculum about the art, business, and philosophy of Djing. Robert rounds out his enthusiasm for music with a position as a gear reviewer for Remix Magazine.

His first official mixed CD, part of the Nokturnel Sessions series, was released in June of 2000 on Topaz Records. His second (the first of several planned over the next few years), Progressive Trance America 001, was released in May of 2002 on a new label, DJ On Tour, for which Robert also performs A&R and label management duties. The second release for DJ On Tour was released in October of 2002, both with stellar reviews in Mixer Magazine. Nationally distributed through Universal Distribution, the world's largest company of its' kind, Robert's mixes are available everywhere, priming him for worldwide exposure.

Naturally, Robert is hard at work in his home studio working on original music, as well as collaborations with other producers. Vinyl releases on his partnered Blaq Velvet imprint are scheduled for the next two years, and he's been busy with remixes for major independent labels. A love of music, an open mind, a dedicated spirit, a hearty work ethic, and years of experience has brought him to the top of his field and earned him praise and respect from his peers in the dance community.
