Parks & Wilson

Parks & Wilson"Where to start...why not a history lesson - concentrate!.............. We met up in our hometown - Coventry, England and used to go clubbing together, to places like the Eclipse. We were both well into the whole dance thing, and already DJing by the time we started going there. The Eclipse was where we met another DJ who would go on to do well - his name was Sasha. Sasha was so spot-on in all of his sets back then, just as he is now, he inspired us and we started doing a similar thing - with our own twist. First stop was at the studio, where we knocked out some tracks as Ritmo Rivals and Blood Brothers.

Next we got together with John Graham, another Coventry boy who was into the same sorts of things as we were. We formed a band called Tilt and started producing more tracks and setting up collaboration projects. We signed with Oakey's Perfecto label, which was an imprint of Warner Music. With their backing (both cash and know-how) we released some big underground music - 'I Dream', 'My Spirit' and 'Places', all did really well and helped to push us up the scale a little further. Unfortunately as with all these things you have to take the ups with the downs, and along with the rest of the roster, we were dropped from Perfecto when they split with Warner.

All was not lost however; we'd caught the eye (and ear) of Red Jerry, and he signed us to his label Hooj Choons. With hindsight, The Perfecto/Warner thing was really good for us, as we bounced straight back to form with 'Invisible' (with Dom Atkins aka Grace on vocals), which went top 20. ' What's This' followed, a deep and dirty underground stomper; later, we brought out 'The Seduction of Orpheus', another massive underground tune which was a Tenaglia favorite. Hooj was a real hotbed of creativity for us - we brought out the 'Feel The Drums' EP under our own name, which was yet another push for our blossoming DJ careers. Around this time John left Tilt to concentrate on his Quivver project, and Tilt became us two again. So that's a bit of history and some production info.

Onto the geeky side! We've remixed and produced loads of big artists. Remixing will always be close to us - it's great to strip a tune down and give it a full-on workout. Karen Ramirez 'Lies', Jeff Wayne ' Eve of The War', Space Manoevres ' Stage One', Danny Tenaglia 'Baby Do You Feel Me', Melanie C ' I Turn To You' and Tilt Vs Spanish Archer 'Beautiful Inside' have all had the treatment. More recently the Parks and Wilson mix on Dido's 'Here With Me' was just huge and went down really well in the media.

Back onto the DJing thing...TrusttheDJ is our new gig. We're playing for some of the best clubs in the world. Renaissance are close to our hearts, we've played for them for years, Cream and Gatecrasher have supported us big time, U2's Irish venue The Kitchen where we play monthly, The Gallery @ Turnmill's, No- UFOs in the old E-Werx building in Berlin, Giant in LA, Spundae in SF, Twilo (now gone but good whilst it lasted!!), Buzz in DC and loads more. We go across the pond every month for two or three dates - watch those Air Miles rack up!!

We're big on events and festivals - in recent years we've taken in Homelands, the Gatecrasher Summer Sound System and the Gods Kitchen Global Gathering. Also the aforementioned E-Werx party in Berlin was a benchmark as was our US Independence Day gig at Space in Miami - that was a party and a half!!

We've completed two Essential Mixes now - it was weird after the first one; we were gigging in Canada and all these punters were asking us to sign downloaded CDRs of the mix in Toronto, where apparently it was top of the internet download chart for months! The very same mix was also voted number 2 in the chart on Radio 1's own website, sandwiched nicely between the number 1 - Sasha and Digweed and number 3 - Dave Clark. Feedback like that is amazing and makes it all worthwhile. Finally, the recently released Platipus 100th release '10 Squared', has us on mixing duties for the first disc and Art of Trance mixing the second. Although it is a retrospective of various Platipus releases over the years, the mix definitely has the Parks & Wilson deep, dark, funky flavor to it!

Next up, you'll want to know about our label work. Since it's naissance in 2000, Baroque Records has matured really well. We've got some great catalogue on there and it's very exciting for us to have our own creative outlet."
