While the DJ career of Nigel Dawson started with gigs amounting to just enough for a cab ride home, the basis for his passion to excite people with music has not only turned into a full time job, but a decade of fun times in far away places. He's traveled the globe twice over and is still exploring places that some will only see on a map. He may not be a rock-star, but a one-man-band would defiantly describe the role of this thirty-something English born talent. He may not pull up in a limo to the gig... but be certain that he will move any dance floor... given the opportunity. And while the world of electronic music never ceases to evolve, Nigel Dawson has claimed his spot in the books as the progressive developer.
Over a decade ago Nigel foraged his way on to the scene by landing a residency with then new (and now world famous) Renaissance nightclub experience. Amongst others, he would open for some of the biggest names in the industry, including Dave Seaman, Sasha, and John Digweed - whom also maintained a residency with the Renaissance at the time. As urban legend has it, the main act missed the gig one night, leaving Nigel to blossom from an opener... to peak time player. Not only was that the start, but he has maintained his spot as the number one DJ under the Renaissance moniker to this very day. Not bad in a business of here one minute, gone the next! Through good and bad, he has managed to look forward while concentrating on the known, not unknown future.
While Nigel seems to hold the interests of the homeland vote due to the appearances at venues such as Tunnel, Pod, Lush, Media, and The Cross, he has also scored a global touchdown with positive showings in Australia, South Africa, USA, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Ibiza, Canada, Russia, China, Amsterdam, Luxemburg, Switzerland, Spain, Greece, Belgium, and Japan. And to boot, he is also scheduled to play future dates in Mexico, Brazil, Finland, and France.
Not only can you find Nigel Dawson competing in the higher DJ circles world wide, his hand in making the very music he supports has helped shape the music scene, and the sound he is known for. While Nigel can be found playing deeper tech-house in the earlier stages of a set, his main passion with DJing and production lies with the dance floor dominating sounds of the progressive genre. In years past, the sound has gone from popular... to not so cool... and back to front run again. The whole time Nigel has stayed true to himself and the music he backs, as a true ambassador would. From his first production in 1996 as Dominion releasing "The Gate" for Whoop! Records UK, he has been in popular demand from club DJs and novices alike. While starting with the Whoop! imprint over six years ago, he has maintained a great relationship and built an outstanding following for his music and the label. So much that, some of his past works have been signed to Renaissance Singapore compiled by Dave Seaman, as well as Gatecrashers first compilation series. Currently he is still enjoying the success of his seventh release to date on the Whoop! label, "11 Hours", which has not only gone the distance, but has also been signed to seven regions worldwide... and last showed face in the form of a re-release on the German label Planetary Consciousness.
Outside of original works, Nigel has also had remix projects with Sony and Stress UK. Whoop! Records has enlisted him for their last two mixed compilations, and the third installment named 'Progressive Development' has just been released in finer record stores world-wide. Look out for his last Dominion release "Shapeshifter" on Whoop! as well as an excellent new collaboration on Rhythm Syndicate under the production name Osiris. With his residency at Renaissance and a straight forward mindset on the road just ahead, Nigel Dawson is sure to make his way to the front of the pack.
