Born in Florida, one of the few pioneer states in America for the underground electronic music movement, Mark began his musical appreciation before most people in the U.S. even knew this side of music existed. This early glimpse into this new musical genre helped to develop the foundation for Mark’s endeavor into the world of DJ’ing years later.
In 1995, he purchased his first set of turntables and began to learn the basics from a local friend and DJ in Tampa, Fl. He quickly picked up the art of beat matching and began to focus on his style of preference. Frequent tapes from fellow DJ’s Kris Larson and Chris Fortier helped form an early influence, but it wasn’t long until Mark started to develop a sound that was all his own. Over the next several years Mark was often seen in the local Tampa scene attending regular house parties & one-offs, as well as the more intimate club nights. One year he managed to make it over to the UK, London to be precise, where he was able to see firsthand a totally different level of musical involvement between electronic music and the mainstream masses. It was these frequent opportunities that allowed him to learn as much as possible about the music, and develop frequent contacts that would later on prove to become quite invaluable. He later took a low profile position with a Florida electronic music magazine by the name of Matter, and was able to contribute by providing written record reviews and assisting with promotions, which helped him keep up with the latest music, news, and trends developing in the electronic music scene.
Late 1998 saw promise for Mark's DJ'ing career as he began to make a small mark of his own in the populating industry. After hard work and perseverance, Mark managed to land several notable gigs playing several prominent local Tampa clubs such as Luna Lounge, The Castle, La Mezzanine, The Rubb, and more recently, Elements at Pop City. Many of these appearances found him playing alongside of some of North America's notable talents, such as Habersham & Numinous, Martin Villeneuve, Evrydaydowners, Kris Larson, Alanna Davis, and Dave Cannalte as well as the UK's Chris Gaines (Sumsonic Records.)
It wasn't till early 2000 that Mark decided to take his musical interests to another level. Through his frequent travels, he had begun to see that the globe was filled with unrecognized talent and felt it was time this shadowed talent come out from the dark. Mark set forth and developed a promotional/informational website, www.DJsInbox.com, and it's mission is to help promote new up-and-coming talent in the form of recording artists, record labels, and DJ's. In addition to building and maintaining the website, a weekly live Internet broadcast titled "Solid Sounds" via streaming audio was born showcasing upfront sets from Mark Kovach and fellow DJ, Kris Larson.
As the site's third full year approached, Djsinbox took another turn for the better. "Solid Sounds" joined forces with Internet broadcast powerhouse Proton Radio for their strong broadcasting efforts. The bi-weekly broadcast quickly spawned into a reputable show with alternating guest mixes from artists such as Chris Fortier, Satoshi Tomiie, Marcelo Castelli, Trendroid, Barry Gilbey, Source of Gravity, Steven Caicedo, and Martin Villeneuve...the list goes on. "Solid Sounds" ,hosted by Mark and fellow Kris Larson, continues to air on Tuesday evenings from 6-8PM EST.
In November 2004 Mark began producing with friend and studio partner DJ Kris Larson as ‘LoVac’. They have already completed two tracks and are currently working on their third. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for future LoVac productions.
