 Dominic Plaza has traveled far since his birth in Poland 31 years ago, fusing his various cultural experiences along the way into producing and DJing some of today's hottest House music.
At 18 Dominic began producing music for fun and like many other DJ's of that era, he was keen to work across various contemporary musical genres — from Electronica and Pop to Trance. Then five years later he began exploring House vibes more exclusively and with this specialization came a base for today's impressive mixes. Continuing to amalgamate personal experiences gained from traveling or living in other countries into his music, Dominic soon established a reputation for creating tracks that take you on a spirited journey through electro, house, tribal and breaks.
In Sweden Dominic established his own brand of uplifting funky beats interwoven with base-heavy tribal and progressive tones, to create a unique and extremely energetic sound. Dominic has regularly worked the turntables at some of the city's best clubs, serving funky progressive sounds at Berns, The Rainbow Room, Kaos-World parties and other events held by famous club promoter Fokused.
By the time Dominic moved to Barcelona in 2003, he had developed a reputation amongst his peers for entertaining his growing audiences with innovative and engaging music. Now the Balearic sound is also infusing itself in his style and Dominic has been quick to share this new joy with Spanish clubs like CDLC, Sugar, Salsitas, Otto Zutz, Lokotron and Club13 together with the likes of the world world wide based clubs.
Dominic is currently working together with Fokused' Parham and remixing artists such as Nikola Gala, Kasey Taylor, Son Kite and Chris Lake - but says that in the meantime, there's plenty already produced to keep his listeners content. Track ´Sounds Rushing´ is set to be one of 2005 years biggest club hits and has been licensed to compilation Searching For Sunrise 4 mixed by Dj Tiesto and track ´Underwater Rivers´ together with Parham has been used by Behrouz for Renaissance Frontiers compilation.
It's easy to hear that Dominic's heart and soul lives inside his music and the fact that these productions are signed or supported by renowned DJs from around the world like Dave Seaman, John Digweed, Seb Fontaine, Kasey Taylor, Hernan Cattaneo and Anthony Pappa - means you ´will´ be hearing his name a lot more over the coming years, both as a producer and DJ!
Interview
What was it about electronic music that attracted to producing...and more so, over other types of music such as rock or hip hop?
It’s exciting to take control over your mind and soul with music and see people exploding in ecstasy.
Your productions are well known throughout the industry, especially the collaborations with partner Parham. And now you are beginning to produce under new/different aliases. Are these new alias projects targeted for a particular sound?
Yes, Sayes stays for tribal-progressive experimental sound and Roger That for more electro inspirited sound.
What would you say has been the most inspiring moment in your musical career?
It must be the last year 2005 with all great respond of my releases and all good gigs all over the world.
Tell us a little bit about the studio setup. Does it consist mostly of hardware or software? Do you feel one prevails over the other?
I try to keep it simple, using the common setup with Mac and Logic. The next step is to invest more in analog equipment. I love the analog sounding stuff; it’s more warm and chunky than digital.
What are your thoughts on the digital era and what affect has it had on your production or DJing career?
Change from vinyl to digital doesn’t affect me much. Thanks to the digital era my record bag is getting smaller. It’s faster and cheaper to get new music from digital download sites. One negative side is the sound quality is not as good with the digital format.
What do you enjoy doing most when you’re not in the studio?
Living on the edge :)
Whats' lined up for Dominic in 2006? Do you foresee an album in your future?
2006 is gonna be an exciting year. Parham and I have loads of new great tunes coming out. I’m also looking forward heading back to South America for a few gigs.
