Interview

1. Are your tastes in music as individuals different from each other bringing your own blend of diversity to the mix, or are they more similar?

We have different tastes and influences as individuals but a lot of things in common too when we play or work in the studio, that is the reason why we feel comfortable working together. Our mixture of styles definitely works.

2. Who are some of your early influences that inspired you along the way during your development of the Iberican Sound?

Chus: djs like Danny Tenaglia, Dj Vibe, David Morales, Roger Sanchez, Eric Morillo, MAW and other artists like Santana, Peter Gabriel or Sade to name a few, Pablo: Of course Danny Tenaglia, Deep Dish, Richie Hawtin and artist like Kraftwerk, Jean Michel Jarre, Depeche Mode or Massive Attack to name a few was our biggest influences in the early days.

3. South America has quite a music scene. Where are some of your favorite venues to dj?

Oh Yeah!, the Southamerican crowd are great, they are really into the music and we feel very comfortable playing there, because we are Spanish and have a very close culture. Talking about venues, Vertigo in Costa Rica is one of the best house clubs we've ever played. Amazing!

4. Do you ever perform live or do you only DJ when playing clubs/events?

When we are in the studio we love to use a lot of technology, hardware, software, we are always looking for new stuff, new things to give our music a new touch. But at the club is all about our records and the people, if you're looking to your laptop computer you are not looking to your crowd, for us is very important that feeling of being close to our crowd without barriers, just them and our records. That is the reason so already we dont have started a performance, but may be we'll find a way of doing something interesting in the future, let's see.

5. When traveling what piece of gear, or anything for that matter, can Chus & Ceballos not leave home without?

We can’t leave home without our laptop and ipod, always with us everywhere. We are a bit ‘workaholics’… ?
Chus: I also can’t leave home without a picture of my two princess, my wife and my little daughter, they are my truly inspiration.

6. You guys are into quite a few exciting things i.e. production, djing, and running the label Stereo Productions, and now the artist agency. How and when did this (agency) come about? Are you continually searching for new talent to represent?

Before the tree partners were today working together in Stereo, 10 Years ago Carlos Calico (the third element) had his own management agency and was the owner of the portuguese house label Lupeca records. Was in Portugal where Carlos & Chus met each others, Chus was the resident Dj of the most important club at that moment in the South of Portugal called Kadoc, they work together for a long time and a bit later (5 years ago) they move to Madrid and join forces with Pablo Ceballos and create the label. In Stereo we are always looking for the new talents and the agency is the perfect platform for the promotion of our artists.

7. Tell us a little bit about your new double mix compilation titled "Back 2 Back"? Are you pretty happy with the result?

For Sure, it's the first Chus & Ceballos double mix compilation released by an American label, Star 69 bring us the chance, and we were really happy to accept the challenge, we try to reflect in each CD what the sound of Dj Chus and what the sound of Pablo Ceballos is, that good balance between hard and soul, groove and musically, deep and intense, this compilation includes upcoming interesting tracks and some Stereo Classics to dance without stop anywhere you play it, we did a really good work, good to listening but better to turn off the ligths and dance.

8. Are there plans for a quick tour to promote the new compilation?

Yes, we have made several dates in a USA and Canada tour last June, and an special showcase in the Virgin Megastore in New York. More cd launch parties are coming, keep updated at www.stereo-productions.com

9. What are some of this year's highlights so far?

A lot of important things have happened lately. Our remix of Madonna have been really succesful, we have confirm dj residences in some of the best clubs of the world like 'Crobar' And 'Cielo' in New York or 'Stereo' and 'Sonic' in Canada. To play in important festivals like 'Black & Blue' in Montreal or 'Monegros festival' in Spain, to release in our label 'Dibiza', the new Danny Tenaglia single. To finish a new colaboration with Victor calderone called 'Cubic - Superflyin' that will come out in september... We are collecting now the results of many years working hard, but the highest point for us is the feeling when we comeback to a place, that the love from the crowd to our music is growing and growing. That is the highlight so far...
