Chris Lake

Chris LakePraised by the crème de la crème of DJ talent, those that know Chris Lake will know how serious he is about his music and how obsessive he is about his DJing and production. This is evident in the care, craft and boundless passion that goes into his DJing which has led to his sets becoming known for their originality, innovation, flawless display of technical skill, but most of all for their energy. Chris Lake possesses a natural ability to work records to their limits, blending beats, building the tension and then taking the roof off!

The transition from new kid on the block, to becoming a firm favorite amongst the top flight DJs has been rapid to say the least. His remix of SIA's classic ‘Drink To Get Drunk' emerged from last years Winter Music Conference in Miami as one of the buzz tracks of the conference, and was the record that first made the world's DJing elite, such as Sasha, Digweed, Kleinenberg and gang sit up and take notice, with all of them making Chris Lake vs SIA ‘Drink To Get Drunk' a permanent feature in their WMC sets.

The next year saw Chris Lake steam ahead with his producing and DJing. In July 2002 Chris Lake 's ‘ Santiago De Cuba ' was released on Hooj Choons off-shoot label, Lost Language (with a Jürgen Driessen remix on the flip). A melodic, driving club cut that received heavy support from both club and radio DJs including Tiesto, Moshic, Graham Gold, The Low End Specialists, Seb Fontaine, and even Fergie dropped it on his Radio One show!

A month later Chris followed ‘Santiago De Cuba' with his bootleg of the Prodigy's much over-looked album track ‘Climbatize', recorded under his law dodging alter-ego, Christophe D'Abuc. D'Abuc vs DaProdigy - ‘Climbatize' became one of the most sought after whites of 2002 and confirmed his position as one of the most talented young producers to come out of the scene last year.

Genuine support from the dynamic duo that it Sasha & Digweed (who hammered it on their Delta Heavy tour of the US and took the roof off with it at Homelands 2002), as well as Sander Kleinenberg, Dave Seaman, Danny Howells, Paul Oakenfold, Satoshi Tomiie, Hernan Cattaneo, Tiesto, Cass, Marcelo Castelli, Seb Fontaine (played on Radio 1 - 20.07.02), Enzo (Coolcuts Chart No.1 - 16.07.02), Hybrid, X-press 2 & Chris Fortier.

Such was the enormity of its success that Liam Howlett (of the Prodigy) heard it, loved it, and (luckily) rather than taking Chris Lake to court, he insisted that XL officially license it for a full release. ‘Climbatize' will be released later this year on XL and will feature a new Christophe D'Abuc mix.

Chris Lake has since taken time out of his international DJing duties to remix Filta's (aka Steve Gerrard ) ‘Abuse' on Minimal Records, Spoiled pres. Stoler ‘3AM' on Intra, EvryDayDowners ‘This World' forthcoming on US imprint Pangea, and has been busy working on studio collaborations with various artists including Joshua Collins and Kingkade .

Most recently Chris Lake has remixed Ictus ‘The Look' for Minimal. Chris Lake 's ‘Dirty Breaks Mix', due for release later this year, has drawn comparisons to Junkie XL productions and has been played on heavy rotation by Sasha, Mojo, Hybrid, Steve Gerrard (who included it on his mix for John Digweed's Kiss radio show, Steve Smart (Kiss 100), Jon Mancini (Colours Mix Broadcast) and Jonathon Lisle (Bedrock) who used it on a recent mix for Annie Nightingale's Radio One show.

Through his original productions, remixes and tireless DJing, Chris Lake has taken his sound far and wide. All of this has come together to consolidate Chris Lake 's place at the top of the heap of new UK producers.
