Bit Crushers is a NYC based production duo consisting of Gaby Dershin (1/2 of Bedrock artists Astro&Glyde) and Sullivan Room’s longest running resident, Amos Damon (DJ Fame of Dubsided & Potty Mouth) first joining forces in early 2006. The two instantly sparked in the studio developing a lengthy catalogue of diverse productions with one common theme in mind, dance floor. Their different musical backgrounds have allowed them to create a new fresh sound, but still stay true to each individual’s musical tastes. Fame was brought up in the underground of New York City favoring bouncy tech-house sounds and jackin’ electro grooves. Gaby grew up on the big room vibe but soon traded it in for head boppin’ house and Ibiza buzz bass. Together as Bit Crushers, they have released originals on labels such as Little Mountain Records, Seven Limited, OMNIS Recordings, Jojo Boni, NOSI Music, Water Based, and more as well as licensing tracks to compilations and even to cell phone companies (Nokia recently chose a "Love Takes So Long" to be one of the stock songs built in to over 3 million cell phone units).

Interview
1. How was the Bit Crushers duo formed?
We met a few yrs ago through mutual friend and Sullivan Room director, Serge Skliarenko. A few years after hanging at WMC we decided to take a shot at producing together and it seemed like such a good collaboration we decided to do it more often.
2. Are your tastes in music as individuals vastly different from each other bringing your own blend of diversity to the mix, or are they pretty similar?
We'd say our tastes in music are way different as working DJ's but for making original tracks they're become more similar.
3. Do you guys perform live together or do you mainly DJ when playing out?
We're working on putting together a hybrid act live with Ableton and DJ'ing.
4. You guys have had some top notch heavily supported projects last year and the early part of 2008. Which project are you most proud of and why?
Well we're happy to say we have a few big projects we're excited about. For starters there's Wanna Ride feat. Kovas. This is the showcase of the more aggressive side of Bit Crushers. Up to this point our releases have been geared more toward female vocals, this time we've gone with a male MC that's had his voice all over many great Hip-Hop releases. The track is ultimately a bangin', buzzin', groove with dope-nasty MC vocals over it. It even has a memorable chorus that Kovas attempts to sing on, the result is floor-devastating. Remixes by super producer Tim Royko (aka Tim Le El) and veteran producer Olivier Giacomotto are superb as well, capturing the overall vibe of the original but taking it in directions that will please the persnickety ear and prove it's worth on the big room sound systems. A few other releases we're excited about are Time to Werk coming out on Sander's imprint Little Mountain Records and also Movin' Too Fast on Omnis Recordings featuring amazing remixes by Oliver Moldan, Medway, Jamie Stevens.
5. If you were offered the opportunity to remix any artist in the entire music industry who would it be and why? Is there are particular song/track that comes to mind?
We're down to remix whoever is putting out good music. In all music areas, if the original has something to it we can do something with it.
6. Are there plans for an artist album?
We've talked about the idea of putting out an artist album with a few interested labels. It will probably happen sooner or later, hopefully sooner.
7. Is one of your long term goals to start a label of your own?
Nope.
8. Gabby: Are you still working on Astro & Glyde projects? Are you still maintaining the residencies in the city?
Yeah, me and James still have our Sunday Sessions party every Sunday at Le Souk. In the studio we're working on a remix for mr. Sasha, a track called "Who Killed Sparky". Almost done, keep an eye and ear out for it.
9. What are your top 5 choons as the moment?
Bit Crushers Wanna Ride - original
Rodriguez JR. - Rubbo Swingo
Style of Eye's remix of Bird of Prey by Worthy
Is This For Love (Paolo Bolognesi Remix)
Planetary - Booka Shade
10. Are you guys ready for this years election? Care to elaborate on what canadit you are supporting?
Barack Obama, rock rock the jamma.
