We've all heard the phrase if you want something done right do it yourself that's just what Bill Hamel has done. Founder of Sunkissed Records and sister label Teknology Recordings, he has proven that if you have the drive and devotion to succeed anything is possible. It's easy to look at his current standing and have respect for the man behind both labels, especially when you understand the amount of energy and passion he as brought to the Dance community.
In 1994 Bill Hamel moved to Orlando, Fl to attend college at UCF. At that time Orlando was considered by many to be the epicenter of America's Progressive Dance Scene; Bill Hamel was instantly hooked. Influenced by many DJ's such as Kimball Collins, Sasha and Dave Cannalte, Bill Hamel picked up his first set of turntables and began absorbing the music. He also started collaborating with fellow artists to fine tune his production skills, and by 1995 his DJing career took off.
By 1996 Bill Hamel soon realized that he wanted to learn more about how dance music was created. He started checking out a few home studios and quickly decided he wanted to build one of his own. After acquiring the necessary licenses and opening a business bank account Sunkissed Records was official.
In 1996, while working at Under Ground Record Source, Bill Hamel and Sunkissed signed their first single (Insight's "Prophecy") to Stress Records.
In 2001 Bill Hamel appeared in Urb Magazine's "Next 100 Artists to Watch". Bill Hamel was quoted to be in high demand as well as highly respected and supported by Sasha, BT, Paul Oakenfold, John Digweed and Paul Van Dyk as well as many others.
"Bill Hamel has the extraordinary rare gift of balancing the deep and subtle with the melodic...a shining star in a sea of faceless DJ's and producers." -Brian 'BT' Transeau.
"Bill's production prowess and his keen sense of melody and song structure have never ceased to amaze us. His impeccably-detailed yet 'human' approach to music-making is a breath of fresh air from the seemingly emotion-less and barren soundscapes which permeates much of our brand of electronic music these days" - Ali 'Dubfire' Shirazinia, Deep Dish.
"Bill is currently one of my favorite re-mixers because he really understands melody and song"-Paul Oakenfold.
Since then Bill Hamel has gone on to do remixes of songs such as Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me A River", as well as Seal's "Get It Together" in which he received a Grammy Nomination for Best Remix. He has also collaborated with BT on "Confession" featuring Jan Johnson and "Last Moment of Clarity". Also, Bill Hamel's original production "Close" will be featured in EA Sports "Total Club Manager" and "Barotek" will be featured in the Independent movie LA DJ.
Currently Bill Hamel has been busy remixing Esther's "OG Bitch" on Warner Brother's, Brandy's "Talk about Our Love" on Atlantic and Blue Haze's "In To Nothing" on SAW. Bill Hamel has certainly made a name for himself these past few years as a DJ, re-mixer and producer, and promises a lot of new and exciting music to come on Sunkissed and Teknology in the near future.
